Firm’s Environmental Head Speaks at Brownfields 2006

By Eric Fulton, Marketing Manager

Jim Witkin, head of Linowes and Blocher’s Environmental law practice group, participated in two education seminars at the recent Brownfields 2006 seminar in Boston, MA. Witkin is a veteran speaker at past Brownfields seminars and the author of several publications on Brownfields and environmental law.

On Tuesday, November 14, Witkin contributed to the seminar “To Lien or Not to Lien? That is the Question,” which discusses the merits of windfall liens. The following day at 9 AM, Witkin was a panelist during “Mission Impossible: Redeveloping the Most Complex Brownfield Sites.” Accompanying notes for each session are available online. Brownfields 2006 is the premier event in remediation, redesign, and redevelopment of potentially contaminated properties. Nearly 5,000 industry professionals are expected to attend.

Beyond his professional experience handling Brownfield cases for numerous clients, Witkin is the former co-chair of the Environmental Committee of the American Bar Association’s Section of Real Property, Probate and Trust Law, and has served as vice chair of that Section’s Indoor Air Committee. Witkin is also the editor and contributing author of the book Environmental Aspects of Real Estate and Commercial Transactions, published by the American Bar Association, which was the ABA’s first book on this topic.
