Seven Linowes and Blocher LLP Attorneys Named “Super Lawyers”

BETHESDA, MD – For the past fifty years, Linowes and Blocher attorneys have been leaders in Washington, DC-area real estate and business law. Recently, seven of the firm’s attorneys were singled out as “Super Lawyers” for their experience and expertise. Less than 5% of Maryland attorneys are named Super Lawyers, a designation earned through peer nominations and evaluations. Linowes and Blocher’s Super Lawyers come from several of the firm’s practice areas, including land use/zoning, real estate transactions, bankruptcy, business litigation, and taxation.

Linowes and Blocher’s managing partner, Andrew M. Goldstein was cited as a Super Lawyer in real estate law. Goldstein’s principal practice areas include real estate acquisitions and sales, commercial leasing, and real estate finance.

Only seven Maryland attorneys practicing land use and zoning law were named Super Lawyers, and two are partners with Linowes and Blocher: Land Use Group head Barbara Sears and partner Stephen Kaufman. A former managing partner of the firm, Sears is known for her work in the revitalization of downtown Silver Spring and development of King Farm, among myriad Montgomery County projects. Stephen Kaufman, with the firm since 1973, concentrates in land use and municipal law. His significant projects include the relocation of Discovery Communications and the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration to Silver Spring, and several residential developments throughout Montgomery County.

Several attorneys from Linowes and Blocher’s Business Controversies and Business and Tax Planning Groups were also named Super Lawyers. Jim Vidmar, an attorney focusing on bankruptcy and workouts, was honored for his work on dozens of Chapter 11 reorganizations and acting as counsel to debtors.

Two attorneys, Gerry Heller and Paul Sweeney, were named Super Lawyers in Business Litigation. Heller, a former Assistant United States Attorney, has represented clients in a wide variety of litigation, including banking, real estate, insurance, employment, environmental and construction issues. Sweeney is the immediate past president of the Maryland Bankruptcy Bar Association and concentrates on bankruptcy litigation and commercial disputes.

Partner and head of the firm’s Business and Tax Planning Group David Cohen also earned the Super Lawyer designation. A Certified Public Accountant and former Chair of the Maryland State Bar Tax Section, Cohen’s practice emphasizes business and tax planning for real estate developers and entrepreneurs, as well as structuring equity and debt financing, business entity formation and reorganization, workout and asset protection strategies, business succession, and family trusts and partnerships.

Maryland Super Lawyers were chosen through a process supervised by Law & Politics, a publisher of attorney-focused magazines since 1990. Super Lawyers are nominated and identified by 21,000 attorneys throughout the state of Maryland. Once nominated, Super Lawyers are evaluated by legal professionals and peers.
